We’ll kick off by celebrating World Environment Day this Friday 5 June. Grab the popcorn, and settle down on your couch for a live-stream of the film 2040.

2040 takes us out of the day to day apocalyptic news of the climate crisis and asks us to imagine a better world – what does your 2040 look like? Award-winning director Damon Gameau (That Sugar Film) embarks on a journey to explore what the future could look like by the year 2040 if we simply embraced the best solutions already available to us to improve our planet.

The film is a beautiful visual letter to his four-year-old daughter, where Damon blends traditional documentary with dramatised sequences with high-end visual effects to create a vision of how these solutions could change the world for future generations.

On Tuesday 9 June, we’re eco-cleaning with a Zoom event to help you go green when you clean. You’ll learn how to make your own safe, environmentally friendly and effective home cleaning products, which are friendlier on the household budget and reduce the amount of plastic packaging that ends up in our waste stream.

On Thursday 18 June, join us as we learn to make sourdough bread with presenter Lydia Irving. There are three virtual workshops in the series, continuing on Thursday 25 and Friday 26 June, taking you through the entire process of making your own delicious sourdough.

Tuesday 16 June, we’re back in the kitchen and going plastic-free – presenter Chelsea Hands will show us how to make beeswax wraps at home. Imagine never buying cling wrap again – this workshop will aid in reducing single-use disposable plastics from your household, as well as keeping food fresh for longer.

From Friday 19 June it’s movie night again, this time join for us a screening of Plastic Oceans – a truly shocking look at the massive plastic problem confronting us in our oceans. Guaranteed to inspire you to action, you’ll find a “What you can do” guide on the website to work through how you can begin to make a difference.

And to wrap up, don’t miss the Food Smart Tips & Tricks Workshop, on Saturday 27 June. One in five shopping bags of food ends up in the bin – what a waste! It costs us money, and creates unnecessary landfill waste.

Food Smart is a free program helping local families reduce their food waste – saving time, money and valuable natural resources. It includes easy, step-by-step guides to help you reduce your food waste and keep more money in your pocket.

Jump on the Library events page now at www.midcoastlibraries.com.au to book for these amazing virtual events in June and let’s do our bit for the environment this month.

These projects are brought to you by MidCoast Council in partnership with the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment and the MidWaste Regional Waste Forum.
