Local mother of two, Jodie Genner has been the driving force behind ‘Share the Dignity’ in the Tea Gardens area for the past two years.

“Our first Christmas we received 95 handbags, last year 105, this year we want to reach 135,” Jodie told News Of The Area.
‘It’s In The Bag’ gives women or girls experiencing homelessness or poverty a very special gift at Christmas.

It’s a simple concept.

All you have to do is choose a handbag that’s in good condition that you no longer use and fill it with items that would make a woman feel special and shows that someone cares.

“It could be filled with personal hygiene products, shampoos, deodorants, maybe a mascara or a scarf, a book to read over Christmas, something that’s a bit special but doesn’t cost the earth,” Jodie said.

Librarian Carol Johnson was only too happy to give over a cabinet in the library to show off the handbags and personal care items already donated by Mumm’s on the Myall Restaurant owner Jenna Menzies.

The campaign runs from Friday 16 November through to Sunday 2 December and all donations can be dropped off at the Century 21 Real Estate Office on Marine Drive in Tea Gardens.
