The combined Club Presentation Night was held today with Club members celebrating the achievements of fellow bowlers with a great dinner served up by the Club’s Queen Kitchen.

The champagne flowed amid the fellowship and camaraderie of good friends.

Not all the winners were able to attend but those that did had a really good night.

The highlight of the night was the announcement of the “Clubman of the Year” award.

This award is presented each year by the Men’s Club President, Keith Smith, to the person judged as having contributed most to the running and the affairs of the Club through their personal efforts.

The very worthy recipient this year was Club Treasurer Graham Kelly.

Well done Graham and well deserved!

Cloud and cool conditions with sporadic showers greeted the 56 bowlers competing in the Nominated Fours game today.

Although play was interrupted on one occasion, the synthetic green made it possible to continue playing.

Again the formula adopted was 20 points for a win plus ends won which put great emphasis on players winning both games.

Doing just that was the winning combination of Brian Newbery, Harry Kennedy, Ron Green and Leigh Hunt.

They finished with +56 just edging out with team of Tom Short, Graham Kelly, the “missing in action” Geoff Muggleton and Dennis Ashbridge. They had +55.

The Lucky losers were John Younghusband, Noel Jackson, Geoff Page and Paul Carter.

Play on Wednesday will retain the Fours format for the next three months or so until the grass green is ready for play

Bowlers will need to get their names down quickly to be assured of a game each Wednesday as numbers will be limited to 56.

There was much frivolity on the green today with The Sunday Bowlers enjoying their Christmas Break-up Day.

Thirty-six bowlers took to the green and 65 attended for a lovely lunch of prawns, ham and turkey salad.

Outgoing co-ordinator Robyn Webster was surprised with a beautiful bunch of flowers as well as a bottle of “Chivas” and an engraved wine glass.

Robyn is taking a well-deserved rest from Sunday bowls.

On behalf of all bowlers, our thanks to her and husband Ron as well as Danny Johnson for all their hard work.

Sunday bowls will continue next year with the opening date to be posted on the notice board of the Club.

Entries are still being received for the opening Club Championship of 2017, the Club Fours.

This is a wonderful opportunity for players who have entered for Pennants next year to practice the 21 end format and to adjust to having only two bowls to play and not three.

Round one commences on Saturday 14 January.

Later in January entries will be received for the Club Minor Pairs Championship which this year will be played over rounds of 18 ends with three bowls.
