Southerly winds blowing 25-30 knots and some heavy showers of rain.

Format for play was 2 games of Triples and a game of Fours. Bette Saillard, Carol Hayden and Karen McPhie were leading by 11 on the 5th end against Ingrid Luck, Lynda Richards and Maynie Roberts.

Maynie’s ladies attempted a comeback, loosing the game by just 2 shots.

The final score 17 v 15. Another comeback story on Rink 4. Sheril Johnson, Pam Gilchrist and Jill McBride on the 8th end had a score of 1 compared to Pauline Perry, Bev Dunn and Sandra Leisemann with 10 shots.

The winners were Sandra’s team 15 v Jill’s ladies 12. Good to see “a never say die attitude”. The Fours game, not sure what to report here. Lyn Nightingale, Christine Fossey, Bev Rhodes and Lynne Green 8 v Francis Betar, Dorothy Thompson, Bev Stephens and Olive McKeown 29. The winners on the day were “winners with the highest margin”.

Not hard to know which team that was.

Wednesday 17th January: Team Training Session with Karen Murphy. Karen has bowled for Australia in over 600 games. The Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in April will make 5 times she has been selected to represent our country in this venue. Basically 43 years old and a bowls legend. All who attended benefited greatly from the theory and practical session. Hopefully our club will bring home a Pennant Flag this season from knowledge/skills gained from Karen. Thanks to Dale Winter, Dorothy Dallas and Bev Rhodes for catering lunch.

Thursday 18th January: Weather conditions much more conducive for lawn bowls. Round 1 Club Championship Fours. On Rink 2 the winning Fours team of 2017 Karen Green, Lily Smith, Dale Winter and Kayelene Pearson v Robyn Beaumont, Julie Kennedy, Karen McPhie and Maynie Roberts. Maynie’s team gained control of this match from the 13th end, eventually winning by 9 shots. The final score 25 v 16. Rink 3, a” good battle” between Bette Saillard, Bev Stephens, Lynne Green and Lorraine Harvey 19 v Ingrid Luck, Kerry Faber, Lynda Richards and Carol Hayden 16. A similar tale on Rink 4 Sheril Johnson, Jill McBride, Wendy Jones and Olive McKeown 26 v Bev Rhodes, Pam Gilchrist, Wendy Brand and Elizabeth Kelly 22. Great bowling by all competitors.

Thanks to Umpire Francis Betar and Controlling Body Sandra Leisemann. Round 2 to be contested Tuesday 23rd January.
Birthday greetings to Pauline Perry and Robyn Webster both celebrating their 21st.

Sunday bowls has resumed for 2018. New and old bowlers welcome just $15 for a game of bowls, BBQ lunch and prizes. Names to be submitted by 0900. Games start 1000.
