Tuesday 5th March: Social bowls plus another Round of the Club Championship Major Singles. Results of the Championship are as follows, Jeanette Emmett took the lead from the beginning of her game against Dale Winter, winning on the 21st end 25 v 10. A tough battle between Robyn Beaumont and Kayelene Pearson. Robyn started strongly and held a 10 shot lead on the completion of the 18th end but Kayelene made a brilliant come back and lost by just 3 shots on the 29th end 25 v 22. A very close game between Karen McPhie and Jean Glover, equal scores on 5 of the 31 ends bowled. At the start of the 28th end they were 21 all, then Jean gained the lead by 1 but Karen wasn’t giving up and amassed 5 shots over the next 3 end, winning 26 v 22. Bev Rhodes and Pam Gilchrist were 6 all on the 7th end, but Pam failed to add to her tally for the next 7 ends while Bev shot ahead by 12 points. Bev stayed in the lead for the remainder of the match ending on the 22nd end Bev 26 v Pam 13. Great bowling by all competitors and many thanks to Francis Betar for Umpiring, Jo Younghusband Controlling Body and the Markers. Social bowls was a game of Fours and a game of Triples. Sandra Leisemann, Robyn Webster/Dot Dallas, Maynie Roberts and Pat Baker annihilated Jan Coomer, Lynda Richards, Bette Saillard and Lynne Green 25 v 9. A big victory also for Dawn May, Dawn Jones and Ingrid Luck 28 v Beverly Thrift, Judi Polak and Sheril Johnson 7. The winners on the day, (winning with the lowest margin) were Sandra, Robyn/Dot, Maynie and Pat. Judi Polak was the very lucky winner of the raffle, many thanks to the Myall Bistro and Café for their donation of the raffle prize. Birthday greetings for Pat Baker and a very special “0” birthday for Bev Stephens.

Thursday 7th March: The Quarter Finals of the Major Singles, although for a couple of bowlers their first bowl in this event due to byes and forfeits. Karen McPhie defeated Robyn Beaumont after 27 ends, 27 v 18. Lynne Green took an early lead against Jeanette Emmett but on the 16th end they were 14 all. Lynne winning on the 23rd end 26 v 17.
Maynie Roberts won on the 16th end against Sandra Leisemann 25 v 7. Lynda Richards and Bev Rhodes had a mammoth contest on rink 5, 35 ends bowled before Lynda reached the magic number, 25 winning by just 3 shots. I have to say all spectators commented on the high standard of all the bowling. Thanks to the Markers, Pat Baker for Umpiring and Jo Younghusband for being the Controlling Body.

A date is still to be determined for the Semi Final and Final of the Major Singles due to our bowlers being involved with District events and Pennants. The Semi Finals games will be Maynie Roberts v Lynda Richards and Lynne Green v Karen McPhie.
