Monday 17th June: Fingal Bay Women’s Bowling Club held their Invitation Day. Format was 2 games of Fours, 12 ends to be bowled. TGWBC had entered 3 teams plus a composite team comprising of Robyn Beaumont and Kayelene Pearson who joined forces with Jill Young and Carol Shepherd (Stockton). Unfortunately wet weather forced play to be reduced to 2 games 7 ends. Congratulations to Robyn, Kayelene & Co. for winning in this event.
Tuesday 18th June: Social bowls plus the final of the Club Championship Minor Singles. Dot Dallas v Pam Gilchrist, what a final it was! Both of these ladies very determined to claim this title. Pam held a narrow lead until the 13th end, score here 8 all. Dot took the lead but not for long. The 16th end 10 all, by the 22nd end Pam had a 4 shot advantage but didn’t add to her tally for 5 ends. The 28th end score 20 all, the 31st end Pam 21 points v Dot 22. The 32nd end Dot scored a 4 after 3 hours of bowling, 128 bowls delivered Dot claimed victory 26 v 21. Great bowling by both competitors. Thanks to Francis Betar for umpiring. Social bowls was 2 games of Fours. Ingrid Luck, Julie Kennedy, Jill McBride and Kayelene Pearson proved too strong for Lyn Nightingale, Carolyn Bywater, Bev Rhodes and Jeanette Emmett 25 v 10. A good win also for Dawn Jones, Lesley Kibble, Bev Stephens and Maynie Roberts 17 v Sheila Rattray, Carol Hayden, Sheril Johnson and Karen Green 6. Winners on the day with the lowest score were Maynie’s team. Pam Gilchrist was the lucky winner of the voucher to the Myall Bistro & Café, not quite the same as winning the Final but a nice consolation prize.

Thursday 20th June: As usual just 12 ends of bowling, format 2 games of Triples and a game of Pairs, played on the grass. Results were Robyn Beaumont & Bev Rhodes 25 v Bev Dunn & Kayelene Pearson 6. Margaret Wigman, Jean Glover & Maynie Roberts 15 v Lyn Nightingale, Judi Polak & Dale Winter 9. Maureen Campbell, Bev Stephens & Lynda Richards 15 v Anne Remment, Francis Betar & Karen Green 5.Unfortunately Bette Saillard had to forfeit from Round 1 of the Annis Young competition. Round 2 will be contested on Tuesday 25th June.

Friday 21st June: Our 2 district representative bowlers Robyn Beaumont and Kayelene Pearson were part of a 7 team squad from NDWBA to bowl in the annual Friendship Trophy against Lake Macquarie District. I’m pleased to report that Newcastle won the Trophy 123 v 118.
