IT’S been a busy time for the Tea Gardens/Hawks Nest branch of the Red Cross, with 11 members visiting Forster recently for this year’s annual Zone Conference.

The meeting was opened by Myall Lakes State MP Stephen Bromhead, and also attended by MidCoast Mayor David West.

“The Guest Speaker before lunch was Eleanor Harris from Emergency Services Project and Support who gave an interesting overview of the structure of Red Cross Emergency Services and the necessity to be prepared for the summer ahead with survival readiness,” Helen Janes from the local Red Cross told News Of The Area.

“Red Cross Regional Manager, Janelle Cazaubon, also answered questions and provided a comprehensive overview of Red Cross today and the aims and achievements of local branches.”

“Another Guest Speaker, Norma Watson gave an interesting and emotional talk on her contact with the Fred Hollows Foundation and her trip to Kathmandu to witness the life changing work done there by the foundation .”

Specialists with the Fred Hollows Foundation travel the word restoring eyesight to those in need.

After lunch it was time for some awards and three Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Members were honoured.

June Pollock received an award for 30 years of service, while Terry Munright and Betty Carolan were recognised for their 10 years of service.
