Port Stephens Council’s Manager of Corporate Services, Carmel Foster, attended the ceremony with General Manager Wayne Wallis and Councillors Chris Doohan and John Morello.

“It’s truly an honour to have been recognised alongside such strong competition,” Ms Foster said.

“Thou Walla is absolutely deserving of this award, as it offers one of the most unique experiences at one of the most spectacular locations in New South Wales.

Council’s Halifax and Final Bay Holiday Parks, past winners at the Tourism Awards, were also nominated in 2016 in the Caravan and Holiday Parks category.

Port Stephens Holiday Parks Business Development Manager Rebecca Smith said guest feedback was one of the key indicators of the success of all Port Stephens Council’s parks.

“It’s an honour to be recognised by the NSW Tourism Awards, but the real win is knowing we’ve created the best experience for our guests,” Ms Smith said.

Thou Walla Sunset Retreat is situated on the tip of Soldiers Point and respects the original Worimi indigenous community; the name, pronounced ‘dha walla’, signifying a place to gather.

In addition to the Sunset Glam tents, Thou Walla Sunset Retreat also features 34 deluxe refurbished, self-contained villas offering spectacular water views across Port Stephens and west over the bay towards spectacular sunsets.
