THE dedicated volunteers of the Tomaree Community Hospital Auxiliary (TCHA) are celebrating a bumper year of fundraising in 2023, with more than $75,000 generated to support the local hospital.

The funds raised enabled the TCHA to purchase a range of equipment to support hospital patients and staff.

“Community groups such as the Tomaree Breast Cancer Support Group, Nelson Bay Lions Club, Nelson Bay Rotary, Nelson Bay CWA Evening Group, Woolworths Salamander Bay and Nelson Bay, Brickfest, Fingal Bay Tennis Club and Bunnings have donated significant amounts of money for us to be able to add to our funds raised through craft items, market stalls, raffles, Return and Earn etc,” said Julia Harrison, TCHA.

“With these funds we are able to purchase, after consultation with the medical teams at the hospital, items such as a specialised paediatric intensive care cot, palliative care patient chairs, CuroCell mattresses, bed monitors and so many other items that make the patients more comfortable and the staff able to deliver the best possible care.”

Being a part of the TCHA isn’t all hard work – there are social outings such as boat trips, Christmas in July, barefoot bowls and day trips to be enjoyed.

“This year our fund raising work will continue,” Julia said.

“Suffice to say, we really appreciate all donations, big or small, including tax deductible monetary donations or vouchers.”
