Tragedy strikes as man drowns at Boat Harbour

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service assisted in the incident.

A 71-YEAR-OLD man tragically lost his life on Saturday after being swept into the water off the point at Boat Harbour.

The incident occurred just after 12:40 pm on Saturday 21 October, prompting an immediate response from emergency services after authorities received a distress call expressing concerns for the man’s welfare.

Efforts to rescue the individual were made by Surf Life Saving NSW, who successfully retrieved the man from the water.

Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, the man was declared deceased at the scene.

A crime scene has been established and a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident has been initiated.

The goal is to ascertain what led to the drowning and to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the incident.

A formal report detailing the findings of the investigation will be prepared for the Coroner, who will play a crucial role in further examining the circumstances and making any necessary determinations.
