Mayor Ryan Palmer and Cr Chris Doohan attended a Medowie Rugby Club training session on Tuesday, 3 March 2019 to announce that funding, although not yet confirmed, is being sourced by the Council to upgrade the Clubhouse at Boyd Oval.

Mayor Palmer said, “The Club has outgrown the current building and upgrades are sorely needed.”

He noted that the bathroom facilities, in particular, were inadequate for both the players and crowds of supporters attending games.

Cr Chris Doohan also said, “The cricket pitch next door to Medowie Rugby Club is being converted to a rugby ground giving the facility a primary and secondary playing field to further accommodate the growing Club.”

With work already started to remove the cricket pitch the new grounds should be ready for use within a few months.

Club President Johan Kruger said, “A large number of junior players have registered for the 2019 season which has highlighted the need for expanded facilities.”

Mayor Ryan Palmer said, “Port Stephens Council will work closely with the Committee to design a Clubhouse to better serve the needs of Club.”

Further announcements are expected in July when the design phase is completed.
