Woman arrested after stolen taxi leads police on three pursuits at Dubbo & Orange

A woman is facing court tomorrow after a taxi was stolen while its driver was helping a passenger with their luggage in Dubbo earlier today.

About 8.50am (Saturday 30 May 2015), a 56-year-old cab driver was dropping off a passenger at Dubbo Railway Station.

While he was assisting the passenger with their luggage, the driver noticed a woman getting into the taxi.

The driver and a member of the public attempted to remove the woman from the taxi, however, the car drove off.

During the struggle, the 56-year-old driver fell to the ground, sustaining minor injuries.

The woman stopped at a local petrol station before leaving Dubbo and it is alleged she did not pay for fuel.

Police pursued the taxi on three separate occasions between Dubbo and Orange. On each occasion the pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.

The taxi was ultimately found abandoned at the corner of Spring Street and Amaroo Crescent in Orange.

A 27-year-old Dubbo woman was arrested after a short foot chase. She was taken to Orange Hospital for mandatory testing.

She was charged with being in a police pursuit – not stop – drive at speed, police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly/dangerously, take and drive conveyance and dishonestly obtain property by deception.

The woman was refused bail and will appear in Orange Bail Court tomorrow (Sunday 31 May 2015).
