Woman dies after being hit by van at Fairfield

A woman has died after being hit by a van at Fairfield last night.

About 6:10pm, Saturday 30 August 2014, a 62-year-old woman was crossing Polding Street with two relatives when she was hit by a van.

Police have been told the woman stopped in the middle of the road before attempting to run to the southern kerb but was struck by a Toyota Hiace van and thrown onto the roadway.

Police and NSW Ambulance Paramedics were called to the scene and the woman was taken to Fairfield Hospital where she died a short time later.

A 52-year-old man, who was driving the van, was not injured during the collision but taken to Liverpool Hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collision are continuing and police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
