The event is being held in the Hawks Nest Community Hall on Thursday 14 March starting at 7pm.
There will be a host of speakers and questions raised surrounding the proposal and the effects of being listed as ‘world heritage’.
Gordon Grainger from the Myall River Action Group said, “The Myall Lakes area is already a world renowned National Park and previous enquiries informed us that “nothing would change”.
“The obvious response is ‘why change?”
He added, “Perhaps it is an introduction to imposing further restrictions to boating and recreational activities within the zone.”
“If that is the case, perhaps the restrictions would also apply to the commercial drag net fishing within the area, which may not be a bad thing, however we can anticipate an angry reaction from those recreational users of the parks.”
Last week, the NSW Primary Industries Minister, Niall Blair announced a review of the Port Stephens Great Lakes Marine Park if the Coalition Government is returned to power at the 23 March election.
The night is free to Marine Park Association members, a gold coin donation would be appreciated from the rest of the attendees.
