With four-hours of non-stop music, Bulahdelah Central School Gym was jumping with over 100 students enjoying the term 1 secondary disco.

Organised by the Student Representative Council (SRC), the students were responsible for arranging all aspects of the event.

Year 11 SRC member Kaitlyn Gregory from Markwell said the aim of the disco was to welcome Year 7 students.

“It’s a great opportunity to get students from all the different year groups together so they can get to know each other socially,” she said.

“The Year 7’s are mingling with the older students and everyone is having a lot of fun.”

Blaring renditions of the Nutbush and Macarena saw the mass of students dance in almost perfect formation.

Showing fancy footwork, the synchronised moves were accompanied by smiles and laughter.
The SRC selected a theme for the disco with students dressing in characters representing the first letter of their name.

With genies, kings, princesses, cheerleaders, cats, nurses and police officers to name a few, the costumes were inventive and provided a colourful scene.

Year 12 SRC member Emily Kirkpatrick from Tea Gardens said the profits from the disco would go towards supporting a charity.

“Each year the SRC selects a charity with all our fundraising for year going towards the cause,” she said.

“This year we are considering the Samaritan’s Christmas Shoebox Appeal so we can provide things for children in need.”

Organising teacher Ms Georgina Cunich said the disco not only provided a fun social event for the students but also allowed the SRC members the opportunity to show their excellent leadership and organisational skills.
