Sporting Clubs in the Myall Coast area will be able to upgrade facilities and purchase much needed equipment with almost $20,000 in funding allocated through the NSW Governments Local Sporting Grants program.
Member for Port Stephens Kate Washington announced last week that Karuah Rugby League Football Club and Myall Coast Little Athletics Centre had been successful in their funding applications.
Karuah Rugby League Club will take home $17,703 for the installation of seating, field fencing and improvements to the clubhouse at Lionel Morten Oval.
Club Secretary/Treasurer Sonja Evans said club members were very happy to receive the funding which will be used to make much needed improvements.
“The facilities desperately need a huge upgrade, everything needs fixing, from the gutters on the change rooms to the banks around the field that eroded away as a result of the storm last year,” she said.
“The funding will allow us to have more seating, upgrade the change rooms and toilets and the fencing will improve safety around the ground.”
The Myall Coast Little Athletics Centre was also successful in their application securing $1,695 for the purchase of a storage container for equipment at the Myall Park Complex.
Melisa Brown, Secretary of Myall Coast Little Athletics Centre said, “This grant means our local Little athletics Centre can keep our equipment up to date and kept in appropriate storage.”
“One of our current containers is in disrepair, so the purchase of a new one will be immensely beneficial as we house a lot of equipment in Athletics.”
Ms Brown told News Of The Area, “We are very thankful to the NSW Gov Local Sporting Grants for their assistance.”
Other Port Stephens clubs to receive grants through funding program include Nelson Bay Netball Club and Raymond Terrace Athletics Centre.
Ms Washington said she was pleased to see so many local clubs give 110% to their grant applications.
“I thank all the clubs who applied for all of their hard work. Their commitment to increasing participation in sport makes our community stronger and healthier,” Ms Washington said.
“Congratulations to all the successful clubs in the 2016 Local Sporting Grants.”
Ms Washington said more clubs in the area will be able to apply for funding in next year’s round of grants.
