According to Port Stephens Council’s Asset Section Manager John Maretich, one of the key changes is the introduction of a give way sign for left turning traffic from Salamander Way into the Salamander Shopping Centre. “The new give way sign will give priority to motorists turning right into the shopping centre, aiming to reduce the waiting time for right turning traffic,” he said. “We have also moved the hold lines forward to assist sight distances for motorists, provided cyclists with a marked bicycle lane and upgraded pedestrian refuge and ramps.” The majority of works were completed prior to last Christmas, while the new road seal and line marking were undertaken in early February 2017. Council has also removed the temporary traffic arrangements involving no right turn from Town Centre Circuit, near McDonalds, onto Bagnalls Beach Road. The arrangements are temporary, pending completion of civil works associated with the Salamander Central precinct development.
