Now see yourself stepping out of the Gondola onto a Skywalk platform made of glass that is teetering off the edge of the mountain.

Under your feet, hundreds of metres below is the crystal clear water, whilst you stand gazing at the unparalleled views of our idyllic Port Stephens and its coastline.

After that breathtaking experience, feeling a little adventurous, you decide to take the Zipline alternative down the side of the mountain all the way to the bottom.

Ryan Palmer, Tomaree Business Chamber President and Mayoral Candidate, gave a hint on Port Stephens 100.9 FM this week that these activities could be a real possibility in the near future that would be sure to see Port Stephens come under the world’s spotlight.

Ideas being discussed with an investor range from a Gondola experience to the top of Mount Tomaree with the option of taking a zipline back down the side of the mountain for the more adventurous, to a glass “Sky Walk” similar to the infamous Grand Canyon Sky Walk.

Currently only the fit and healthy can climb to the summit of Mt Tomaree and this would give everyone equal opportunity.

“The reason everyone loves Port Stephens is because of the natural environment,” Ryan Palmer, Tomaree Business Chamber President and Mayoral Candidate told Bay News Of The Area.

Mr Palmer believes that the additions of these attractions would enhance the natural environment, highlighting them and putting our area on the world stage.

“We want more overnight stays to our area, as well as building tourism as we showcase our beautiful area,” Mr Palmer said.

“I believe that these kind of attractions would be enhancements to our visitor economy and projects that a proactive council should be considering,” Ryan Palmer added.

“It’s not council’s core business but it is important to create employment, enabling our youth to stay in Port Stephens,” he said.

Mr Palmer believes it is time to begin the momentum, to change people’s perspectives and to plant seeds in the minds of investors as we reinvent ourselves and our beautiful region
