The Rotary Youth Exchange is known internationally as being a sponsor of high quality exchange programs between countries. Currently on exchange from the small European landlocked country, Switzerland, Fabia Baumgartner is in Australia for 12 months, including six months in Medowie. Miss Baumgartner, who attends Newcastle High School, told Medowie News Of The Area, “Since being in Australia I have learnt so many new skills and words in English and met so many awesome people and been to some incredible places.” “I love spending my free time at the beach, this is not something possible in Switzerland.” While in Australia, Miss Baumgartner will travel to Dubbo for a Rotary District Conference and will meet up with other Rotary exchange students. A highlight of her time here will be a three-week tour in April of Australia, taking in the sights of Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Alice Springs, Cairns, and Brisbane. Miss Baumgartner added, “Doing a Rotary Exchange is the best thing I have ever done.” “I highly recommend it to anyone who would like to make new friends, learn a new language, experience another culture, and have the time of their loves.” “A year of Exchange gives you so much, not just for now, but also for your future.” Miss Baumgarnter also added, “I am extremely appreciative of the Rotary Clubs of Williamtown and Merriwa and my host families for taking me into their homes and being a part of their families.” By Heather SHARP
