KARUAH is set to receive a much needed $500,000 upgrade to its sporting facilities at Lionel Morten Oval.

The half million dollars will be spent replacing and upgrading current club room amenities at the home of the Karuah Roos Rugby League Club.
Deputy Mayor of Port Stephens Council Chris Doohan told News Of The Area he was more than happy to support Councillors Ken Jordan and Paul Le Mottee in their efforts to improve the sporting ground for the residents and visitors to Karuah.
Mr Doohan, an ex-footy player, describes himself as a league tragic.
“I’ve heard so many great things about the Karuah Roos of over the years, and I remember playing against them as a young fella.”
“I remember, we were horrifically beaten by a formidable side, who were clearly backed by a town of supporters who fiercely loved their club,” Mr Doohan said.
“When it was put to us to give money towards the new club facilities, it was a no-brainer when we saw what the club has been using as their club room and facilities for so long,” he said.
Karuah Rugby League Club Secretary Sonja Evans said improvements are desperately needed to the clubhouse facilities.
“We’ve got nowhere for the women to shower or change when they come here for a game,” Sonja said.
The $500,000 is part of a $6 million spending spree by Port Stephens Council ahead of the September elections.
