BUILDING works are set to boom in Nelson Bay after Council approved a six storey residential flat building for the vacant site on the corner of Church and Donald Streets.
The building will comprise of 17 apartments including, a one-bedroom apartment; nine two bedroom apartments including one accessible unit, and seven three bedroom apartments.
The building plans include 30 onsite car parking spaces, including one accessible space with 26 car parking spaces in the basement level.
Clever technology will be used to make the most of space with the parking incorporating a vertical double vehicle stacking arrangement for eight parking spaces.
There are two new building projects now approved for the Nelson Bay CBD seeing some long awaited positive development.
The Development Application (DA) is for a building of 20.7m in height with the new residential block seen as creating a high quality building at one of the main entry points to the Nelson Bay CBD.
The development is consistent with the Nelson Bay Town Centre and Foreshores Strategy adopted in 2012, which includes a building height ‘bonus’ of two storeys for the Nelson Bay CBD if the building demonstrated design excellence and strategic public benefit can be demonstrated.
Councillor Sally Dover told News Of The Area, “This is an exciting development, the DA was approved unanimously by Council, and I see this and the other building which work is starting on as a catalyst for a whole new trend for Nelson Bay.”
“Good things are happening which will give Nelson Bay a whole new lease of life,” she said.
It is believed that the proposal building will expand the population base in close proximity to the town centre of Nelson Bay contributing towards critical mass of the population, thereby supporting the local economy.
