MEDOWIE performers have danced their way into the hearts of audiences at the Hunter Schools Dance Festival.
The Hunter Schools Dance Festival is a celebration of dance by Public Schools NSW from the Hunter and Central Coast that provides the opportunity for children to perform alongside peers from other schools and participate in a professional dance setting across a four-day festival.
Medowie was well represented this year with Wirreanda Public School and Irrawang High School both auditioning and gaining spots to dance in the festival.
Irrawang High School’s Junior, Intermediate and Senior Dance Ensemble groups were successful in being offered performance spots.
They began rehearsing their contemporary dances with their teacher Mrs Meagan Rembarz (nee Witchard) since the beginning of the year, and danced up a storm on all three nights.
Irrawang High School representative, Lue Fagan, told News Of The Area, “The feedback from the festival has been wonderful; we are so proud of our students.”
“The festival is a favourite for Irrawang to be involved in.”
“It is wonderful watching so many talented students across the region showcase their skills and be recognised for them,” she said.
Ms Fagan reported that the school even received a phone call from a Newcastle resident with no ties to the school, letting them know how impressed they were with the Irrawang performance, and the behaviour of the students before and after their performance.
Wirreanda’s talented troupe consisted of 27 students from years three to six, with just one boy, Dylan.
This year Wirreanda Public school chose the theme of celebrating 80 years since the first ever animated film was released, which was Disney’s Snow White.
The children practiced during lunch times and on Monday afternoons during ‘enrichment time’.
The dance was choreographed and trained by Wirreanda Public School teacher, and owner of local dance school Dance n Dazzle, Corynne Darcy.
