They celebrated their 25 year anniversary as a dressage club in Port Stephens at their weekend competition, and also an impressive recent award win.

Alexander Park Dressage Club are delighted to have recently been awarded the ‘Equestrian Australia Club of the year’ for 2016.

The club has had a busy 25 years, building from humble beginnings to where they are now.

The first events for the club, back in 1992, were held at Deltry Lodge at Raymond Terrace.

They began with only three classes at their events, the 1B unofficial, 2A official and the 2C official.

In 2017, the club now hosts 34 events over two days.

The Alexander Park Dressage Club soon outgrew Deltry Lodge, and moved to the Pony Club grounds in Raymond Terrace for some time, then onto the property of Allen Jennings and Wendy Ward at Heatherbrae.

With the help of Bruce MacKenzie and Port Stephen Council, the club again moved to the present ground at Richardson Road, Salt Ash and can now hold events comfortably on eight arenas, including two sand arenas

They consistently have around 250 entries on a weekend event.

In 2016, the club had 302 members, of those 40 were youth and 15 junior members.

They have 14 active committee members and 12 enthusiastic sponsors.

On the 24 March 2017, Alexander Park Dressage Club was awarded Equestrian Australia Club of the Year for 2016.

The awards evening was held in Brisbane and five of committee attended the evening.

This award covers all equestrian events, not just Dressage, and is decided upon from entrants from all States and Territories of Australia.

Vice-President of Alexander Park Dressage Club, Bruce McVey, told News Of The Area, “We are thrilled to receive this award on behalf of our committee, members, volunteers and sponsors who have all helped to make the club so successful.”

“We all have something in common; the love of the horse.”

“We strive to put the “wow” factor into attending an Alexander Park Dressage Club  event and if everyone who comes to our day goes home saying, “Wow, I had a great day”, then we have achieved our goal,” he said.

You can visit the club’s webpage at www.apdc.net.au or on their Facebook page.

  1. It’s very sad you have left out the Beautiful sentiment to honour Michael Higginbottom’ s parents of which the name Alexander Park originates. Congratulations APDC this stranger is prouder than you will ever know!
