It is deeply seated in Australia’s sense of nationalism and identity and forms part of our local identity, with the Bay hosting US troops for training during WWII.

ANZAC was born in the trenches of Gallipoli where mateship, ingenuity and the true grit of the troops from Australia and New Zealand were sorely tested.

On 25 April ANZAC Day will be celebrated around the Country.

Russell Durrant the Honorary Secretary of the Nelson Bay RSL Sub-Branch told News Of The Area, “In Nelson Bay a Dawn Service will be held in Apex Park, marchers will assemble at 5.30am with the ceremony commencing at 5.40am.

“Following the Dawn Service there will be a hot breakfast served at Wests Nelson Bay Diggers provided to returned and uniform personnel free, members of the public are welcome to attend for a fee of $5.00.”

The Nelson Bay ANZAC Day March will step off from the Nelson Bay Bowling Club at 10.40am down Stockton St to the memorial in Apex Park with the service commencing at 10.50am.

“After the service a Luncheon will be held at Wests Nelson Bay Diggers starting at 12.00pm uniform personnel free, others may attend for a fee; Sub-Branch members $15.00, Serving Members with ID $15.00 visitors and guests $30.00, everyone is welcome,” he said.

A Dawn Service starts at 5.45am at Tilligerry RSL Sports Club and at ANZAC Park in Raymond Terrace.

With the Tilligerry ANZAC Day march stepping off at 9.40am from the South Gate on the Avenue of Allies, Tanilba Bay.

The March will precede down Lemon Tree Passage Road to the Tilligerry RSL Sports Club where the main service will start at 10.00am.

There will be a Dawn Services at 6am at Bulahdelah at the Cenotaph and in Pacific Palms at the Community Centre.

A March will be held at Bulahdelah at 10.30am from Crawford Street followed by an 11am service at the Cenotaph.

As always there will be the Dawn Service at ANZAC Park on Marine Drive at Tea Gardens beginning at 6am.

A breakfast will follow at the Tea Gardens Country Club followed by another service at ANZAC Park starting at 10am.

Former NSW Governor, Rear Admiral Peter Sinclair will give the address.

President of the Tea Gardens RSL Sub Branch Terry Munright said, “After the service at ANZAC Park, there will be a lunch at the Country Club, followed by the traditional afternoon of two-up.”

Tea Gardens commemorates ANZAC Day with a 10am March from Ogden Street and an 11am Service in ANZAC Park.

In Raymond Terrace servicemen will form up at 10.45 am for the march at Sturgeon Street, Raymond Terrace, between Glenelg Street and William St.marching to ANZAC Park where an 11am service will be held.

In Seaham at 8.45am a march will form up in Seaham Weir Park and march to the Memorial on Newline Road where the service will be conducted.

In Karuah, they’ll be gathering at 5.45am at Tony King’s Garage, old Pacific Highway, for the march to Memorial Park for the Dawn Service.

Breakfast will follow at the Karuah RSL with the main service to be conducted at the Memorial Wall at the entrance to the Club at 9am.

In Stroud, the March and Services will begin at 8am at the intersection of Cowper Street and Memorial Avenue culminating at the Cenotaph.

ANZAC Day is a time to reflect, to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their nation.

It is a time for us all to be united together in a shared history, one that has helped shape our great nation.

Member for Paterson Meryl Swanson will be attending services at Nelson Bay, Abermain, Kurri Kurri, Maitland and East Maitland.
