This is the message that prospective Central Ward councillors, Mr Patrick Byron and Ms Jenny Battrick, want you to remember.

Both long-term locals, they are running as a team in Central Ward to make a difference for Port Stephens residents.

The two candidates are committed to community involvement having both been Wirreanda P&C Presidents and involved in the local Soccer club.

Mr Byron is on the community pre-school committee, Medowie Sports Council, and was elected as a torch runner in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Ms Battrick is a community nurse and the only female founding and honorary member of the Tilligerry Men’s Shed.

Ms Battrick spoke with News Of The Area about their vision saying, “It’s time for new energy, a strong vision for community and a plan for longevity, with both short and long term goals past that initial four year term.”

Mr Byron told News Of The Area, “The community need people elected to be able to relate to, we are family and community minded people.”

“There is no room for politics in local government.”

“We want people to be able to engage and approach us on a personal basis, not just a ‘like’ on a post on social media.”

Both aim for their campaign to be about respect.

Ms Battrick said, “Council comprises many different personalities and backgrounds, you are born with your integrity and Patrick and I know we won’t agree on everything, but will agree to disagree as councillors on some points.”

“We can promise that we will always work as a team to show respect as we work to be a part of the bigger team with all residents in our community.”

They look forward to actively engaging the community and meeting people to listen to their vision for Port Stephens.

News Of The Area will introduce all prospective Mayoral and Councillor candidates over the coming months, so that readers can make an informed decision at the September 9 Council elections.
