This was part of the Tomaree Peninsula Urban Koala Corridor Enhancement Planting Project. This initiative is funded under the umbrella of the NSW State Government’s Environmental Trust and the team will visit six schools on the Tomaree Peninsula. They came replete with a kit which included a stuffed koala, a bunch of fresh koala-friendly leaves and information about the koalas’ habitat and their life cycle. The other group in town was the Green Army, regular visitors, who focus on maintaining koala habitat by the removal of weeds and linking koala communities by planting corridors of koala food trees. Landlocked koalas in Tilligerry face a bleak future with two being killed in Mallabula alone recently. On top of this, their three big threats: traffic, dogs and bushfires, are increasing all the time. By Geoff WALKER
