NED Kelly, Convicts, the Queen of Hearts and Mary Poppins were just a few of the many standout costumes worn by students and teachers in Book Week Parades around the region last week.
A magical sea of colour swept across the playground at Karuah Public School as favourite literacy characters came to life.
Assistant Principal Mrs Saffioti said the theme of the day was ‘Alive in Wonderland,’ with both the staff and students dressing for the occasion.
“The spirit of book week was alive and thriving in Karuah and a great day was had by all,” Mrs Saffioti said.
The parade was organised by Librarian Mrs Woolley and showed students that books and reading can be fun.
At Booral Public School, wet weather didn’t dampen spirits at their Book Week celebration.
There was much cheering and applause as the children proudly paraded their colourful costumes in front of their friends and parents.
A Cowgirl, Wally, Dalmatians and Princesses were some of the many book characters on display.
A large crowd of parents gathered at Tea Gardens Public School for a celebration of Australian authors and their books.
The students dressed as historical and contemporary characters representing the theme Australia! Story Country.
Jackaroos and Jillaroos, Crocodile Dundee, Pig the Pug and some extraordinary gumnut babies were among the many inventive costumes worn by the students.
Teacher Mrs Debbie Booth said it was a great opportunity for librarian Mrs Howard to showcase the writers of Australia who featured heavily in this year’s book week theme.
The costume parade at Tea Gardens was extension of book week activities which included a Book Fair held earlier in the term.
Book Week is a nationwide initiative of the Children’s Book Council of Australia and brings children and books together to celebrate a love of literature.
