25MAY: Forty-eight bowlers provided some competitive games during the Wednesday Nominated Triples today and it is refreshing to announce that the team of Vic Garlick, Col Fossey and Bill Heylbut won the day with a great score of +38.

All of these gentlemen have been playing very good bowls lately and deserve their result.

The formidable team of John Younghusband, Ross Barry and Danny Johnson came in second with a good score of +31.

It was announced that Tea Gardens Bowling Club will receive a visit from the East Maitland Bowling Club on Saturday 4 June.

This event will be Mixed- mufti and will start at 12.30 pm for a 1.00 pm start.

Cost will be $20.00 per player and will include a spit roast after the game. Sounds great!

Spit roasts seem to be the order of the day with all Pennant players, including reserves, invited to attend a Post-Pennant bash on Friday 17 June.

There will be no charge for players who nominated for Pennants and our wonderful lady helpers and Umpires. Non- Pennant bowlers who would like to attend will be charged $20.00 per head.

27 May: Friday Jackpot Pairs fielded 14 players this week. With the jackpot reaching $300.00 you would think that the nomination sheet would be full.

Graeme Watkins and John Yabsley won the day on +13 from Henk Faber and Alan Greenhalgh on +9.

The Jaffa played against Graeme on Wednesday and he was “on-fire”.

Keep up the good form Graeme!

With the Annual General Meeting fast approaching, Sunday 26 June, it is not hard to imagine that the poor fields for Friday Jackpot bowls may prompt some changes to the format from the new Management Committee.

Cold and windy weather greeted the 16 bowlers taking part in the Sunday Introduction to Bowls programme.

A big Tea Gardens Bowling Club welcome to new bowlers Allan Barnes and Frank and Bev Dunn.

Winners for the day were Allan Barnes, Frank Dunn, Bryan McPhie and Kingsley Jolliffe.

The Lucky losers were Kathy Stone, Graham Hocking Pam Gilchrist and David Williams.

Many thanks to our cook Garry Wynne and Coach Kathie Rimmer.

Nominations are about to close for the Club “blue-ribbon” event the Major Singles Championship.

At the time of writing there were 23 players nominated with a mixture of talent which includes some new bowlers, some players likely to cause an upset and several with impeccable credentials.

The Major Singles always reminds me of those “westerns” we used to see with everyone wanting to knock-off the fastest gun.

Top-gun, Richard Lee will be defending his title and runner-up last year, Jeff Baker, will be keen to reverse the 2015 result, but first they have to run the gambit of a good field that has other ideas.

Incidentally, Richard was part of the winning side in the recent three-day Blue Water Classic Men’s pairs played at Nelson Bay.

Great stuff!

The action will commence on Sunday 5 June.

Markers are needed for the opening games.

If you would like to be front and centre of some really great games, the Match Committee would like to hear from you.
