Barry Bros Butchery & Deli has been a family-run business by Wayne and Louise for the last 24 years.

On 12 June they won first prize in the Australian Meat Industry Council Regionals for the best Pork Sausage, but winning is something they are used to as they win placings each year and in 2006 won on a National level.

They are supported by the locals and now sell wholesale product to Forster, Pacific Palms and Hawks Nest.

Wayne often works twelve hour days, starting at 5 am to prepare the meat, but he has also been able to fit in some bike riding training.

In September, Wayne will be one of forty-two riders who will cycle 1000km from the Gold Coast to Newcastle to fundraise for Camp Quality, the children’s family cancer charity.

Virgin Australia is a major sponsor and Donna George, Camp Quality Events Manager, states,

“We’re so excited to have Virgin Australia on board as a major sponsor.

“This partnership will mean a great support to the event and help us raise as much money as we can for children living with cancer in Australia.”

The bike ride will pass through small towns along the New England Highway and will be supported by a twenty cycling support crew.

When Wayne spoke with Myall Coast News about why he was signing up for such a ride he replied, “It is for a good cause. I’m grateful for my healthy kids but I have lived through the experience of a relative dying of cancer at the age of 47.”

Wayne would appreciate sponsorship for his bike ride and donations can be made at the Barry Bros Butchery & Deli, Stroud Street, Bulahdelah or go to the following website: https://1000ks4kids.everydayhero.com/au/wayne
