A lot has changed in the lives of Bulahdelah Central School’s class of ‘96, but the former students were able to pick up exactly where they left off 20 years ago at a recent school reunion.

As the evening progressed, Bulahdelah Bowling Club came alive with laughter as the group reminisced about their trips to Jindabyne and Canberra and gossiped about their teachers.

Reunion organiser and former school captain Megan Smith said most people hadn’t changed too much since leaving high school.

“Everyone’s obviously grown and become a bit more worldlier after 20 years, but it is nice that underlying is the same people and personalities,” she said.

“We shared some great life experiences that have probably been part of the reason that we have come back together to remember where we came from.”

The reunion, which was held in December, was the first time the group had formally got together since finishing school.
Megan told News Of The Area she was hoping there would be many more to come.

“We weren’t able to contact everyone which is a bit of a shame, so I’m hoping that the reunion might ignite a regular thing,” she said.

“Hopefully next time we can spread that a bit broader and connect with everyone who had been part of our year group at some stage from Kindergarten through to Year 12.”

Megan said kicking off the reunion was in part an effort to build a school alumni community.

“I hope that in time we can develop a community of ex-students who can give back to, and assist in inspiring and influencing the choices and paths of current and future students,” she said.

“One thing that surprised me was a discussion around other reunions, perhaps there have been some but not to the knowledge of those of us there.”

Megan said she was hoping the recent reunion would start the ball rolling on similar events.
