Christmas cricket at Wiigulga Sports Centre on Friday 22 December

The Northern District Cricket Club one day team are ready to have fun on Friday 22 December.

THE NORTHERN District Rebels Cricket Club (NDRCC) welcomes the community to come along to the annual Christmas cricket game on Friday 22 December, this year featuring special guest Anika Learoyd.

“NDRCC is excited to announce that our Women’s and Girl’s Ambassador Anika Learoyd will be joining the Woopi community on Friday for the club’s Family Christmas T20 Charity Match at Wiigulga Sports Complex from 4pm,” NDRCC’s Dave Szumowski told News Of The Area.

Anika is a Gumbaynggirr local who played her junior cricket in Woolgoolga.

She is a right-handed batter who plays for the Sydney Thunder in the Women’s Big Bash League and the New
South Wales Breakers in the Women’s National Cricket League.

She was the leading run-scorer in the 2020 Cricket Australia Under-18 National Championships with 384 runs at
an average of 42.67, and made her debut for the Thunder on 25 October 2020 against the Sydney Sixers, and
for the Breakers on 25 February 2021 against the Tasmanian Tigers.

“Annika is sure to give an interesting and entertaining element to the whole event,” said Dave.

The match sees Jamieson’s GNL Produce take on Savreet’s Woolgoolga Diggers.

“It’s a big fun, family and friends style event, with BBQ, water slide, music, a visit from Santa and there’s also a
fun contest for the fastest player 100m race and the fastest sportsperson across many different sports in the
area,” said Dave.

Any potential players looking for a game in the new year, especially women and girls interested in starting an inaugural social women and girls league, is asked to contact northerndistrictsrebelscc@gmail.com.

A gold coin donation collection will be given to a local family in need.
