Coffs Harbour District Cricket Association’s T20 Cup set to begin

Coffs Colts will look to defend the T20 Cup which they won last season.

THE Coffs Harbour District Cricket Association’s latest season starts off with a bang this weekend, with the opening two rounds of the T20 Cup played in Coffs Harbour.

Seven teams will feature in the eight-round competition; including Bellingen, Coffs Colts, Diggers Cricket Club Inc., Nana Glen, Northern Districts Rebels, Sawtell and Valleys Cricket Club.

Coffs Colts will look to defend the T20 Cup which they won last season, after beating Nana Glen in the final at the Ce.x Coffs International Stadium in February.

The Colts begin their T20 Cup defence when they take on the Northern Districts Rebels in their Round 1 match this weekend at the Coffs Coast Hockey Fields.

T20 Cup winners in 2019 and 2020, Sawtell start their season against Bellingen at the Coffs Coast Sport & Leisure Park.

Last year’s first grade premiers Diggers Cricket Club Inc. begin their T20 Cup campaign at home when they face Valleys Cricket Club at Fitzroy Oval.

Last season’s T20 Cup runners up Nana Glen have the opening round bye, and play their first T20 match on Saturday afternoon against Valleys Cricket Club.

Winners of the past three T20 Cups, the Coffs Colts and Sawtell meet in Round 2 at the Coffs Coast Hockey Fields.

The other Round 2 match sees the Northern Districts Rebels and Bellingen play off.

Diggers Cricket Club Inc. won last season’s first grade one day competition, and captain Jonathon Paff said his squad were now focusing on improving in the shorter form of the game.

“We weren’t that great at T20’s last year so hopefully we go better,” he said.

“It’s something we are looking to improve as we can only get better after last season as I don’t think we won a T20.”

The Coffs Harbour Districts Cricket Association’s second grade competition also blasts into action this weekend, with two matches at Nana Glen.

Coffs Colts take on Diggers Cricket Club Inc. in their local derby, while Nana Glen host Bellingen.
