Red was the flavour of the day at Medowie’s local Coles store. Redkite Day was held on Friday, 3 June 2016 at Coles, Medowie to raise money for children with cancer.

The fundraising event, held each month by Coles stores Australia wide is a partnership between the supermarket giant and the charity that was launched in 2013.
Coles employee and Redkite supporter, Ann Marie Stott-Lucas told Medowie News of the Area that Redkite is the “Charity that Coles supports. We support the families of children with cancer.

For example, financial wise—paying bills while the parents take time off work to care for their sick child.”
On Friday, Coles sold red donuts, red delicious apples, and bags of red lollies to raise money for Redkite.
Staff got into the spirit of the event by wearing red and decorating the store.
Mattie Vukovich, Store Manager, told News of the Area that the monthly Redkite day is an important focus for Coles’ charity work, “We want to help families when they are going through a tough time; we have an event for Redkite each month.”

Taken from Redkite’s website, the aim of the charity is “Providing essential support to children and young people with cancer, and their families, has been Redkite’s focus for over 30 years. We’re here throughout the whole cancer journey, from the moment of diagnosis until after treatment finishes.”
