A CRAFTY group of people were in stitches of laughter at the very first Nanna Night held at Bulahdelah Bowling Club last week.

The group chatted and shared their yarns accompanied by the click clack of needles as they knitted one, purled two and increased their woollen rows.

Others were hooked on crochet, interweaving their yarns into double loops and chains.

Organiser Ren Sullivan said the evenings were a laid-back opportunity for people to do something they enjoy.

“The purpose is to encourage people to get together with their craft or hobby and work on it in a relaxed social environment,” she said.

“It is a great excuse to get out of the house and have a chat with friends and also meet new ones.”

People of all ages are welcome to bring along their knitting, needlework, crochet or other crafts to work on during the evening, but you don’t need to be crafty to join the group.

“There’s plenty of people willing to help others learn or you can just come and have a chat and admire the work that is being done,” Ren told News Of The Area.

With many traditional craft skills in danger of being lost in the technological age, Ren said it’s important to keep the skills alive.

“These are valuable skills that were once passed down from generation to generation,” she said.

“We need to continue to share them and keep them going.”

The Nanna Nights are held each fortnight on Tuesday evenings at 7.00pm at Bulahdelah Bowling Club.
