What can be seen as a sign of the digital times’ age, Medowie’s only DVD and games hire shop is closing its doors at the end of the month.

Main Street Video, located in the Ferodale Road Plaza, has been under its current ownership for two years and will cease trading as the business is “no longer viable” shop worker and sister of the current owner, Liz, told Medowie News Of The Area.

While no longer able to hire DVDs, locals are able to purchase store copies of films, TV shows, games, and associated film paraphernalia such as posters until the end of the financial year, June 30.

For long term residents, the close of the business will being about a big change in the area, the DVD hire shop having been on the same premises, under various names including Network Video and Video Ezy for over 20 years.

With such slow internet speeds, and no NBN planned for Medowie in the near future, locals may have to travel to Raymond Terrace and elsewhere to hire a film; a regular Friday or Saturday evening activity for many young families.
