“This project is particularly important for the local area in that we have one of the highest demographics of elderly in the nation, and therefore we need modern, high quality care facilities such as this to meet the needs of our population,” Dr Gillespie said.

Also visiting the facility was its namesake, former NSW Governor Peter Sinclair.

“I remember when Shirley (his wife) and I moved here in 1986, I said it’s great place to live, we’re going to have a great time, but nothing for senior citizens, there wasn’t a facility here at all,” Mr Sinclair told News Of The Area.

“The first facility was an RSL sub branch with just a ten room facility and it all flowed from there,” Mr Sinclair said.
The new wing will bring the total beds at Peter Sinclair Gardens to 65.

Dr Gillespie said the new services would result in the creation of many new nursing and support jobs.

“It’s regular long term employment, because you have back of house, hotel services, critical care, cleaners, it’s not one on one with clients but it’s pretty close.’’

Builders will take just a one week break over the Christmas period to ensure the new facility is ready to open its doors in early 2017.
