A diverse mix of Nelson Bay and Tomaree Peninsula residents and stakeholders were invited to attend the launch of Nelson Bay Next which was held at Broughtons.

Alongside a draft strategy which was place on exhibition this week the new Nelson Bay Next logo was launched.

Importantly The Honourable Taylor Martin MLC was on hand to provide the community with a $70,000 contribution for Nelson Bay which will be matched dollar for dollar by Port Stephens Council.

Taylor Martin MLC told News Of The Area, “The $140,000 in funds will be used for engaging a consultant, improving pedestrian access, traffic flow, parking, and streetscapes.

“The funds are available now, this financial year, so Council can get started now on improvements to the town,” he said.
Nelson Bay Next represents energy, ideas, a vibe and a healthy community.

The draft ‘Progressing the Nelson Bay Town Centre & Foreshore Strategy: A revised Implementation and Delivery Program 2017’ was also placed on public exhibition for an extended six week period, closing Wednesday 4 April 2018.

The presentations at the launch of Nelson Bay Next focused on some of the issues within the draft strategy including built height for the Nelson Bay CBD.

Council staff and potential investors in developing the Nelson Bay CBD spoke at the event and a video was released sharing the Mayor’s vision for Nelson Bay Next.

Council is holding drop in sessions for the community in Apex Park on 7 March 1-3 and 4-6pm to discuss the draft strategy and express any concerns.

The Tomaree Residents and Ratepayers Association (TRRA) are holding a public meeting at Nelson Bay Bowling Club at 7pm on 6 March to address key issues in the draft strategy.

Geoffrey Washington of TRRA told News Of The Area, “The forum will be open for both sides to have their say, everyone is welcome.”
