Drugs, “ice” pipes, cash seized from vehicle near Taree

Two women have been charged after police seized drugs, cash and other items from a car near Taree.

About 10pm Monday (15 September 2014), police from Manning Great Lakes Local Area Command were driving south on the Pacific Highway near Croki.

It’s alleged a grey Land Rover Discovery overtook the police car at a speed well above the sign-posted limit.

Police will further allege when they stopped the vehicle, they observed drug paraphernalia inside.

Officers arrested the two occupants – two women, aged 40 and 41 – and took them to Taree Police Station. Their vehicle was also taken to the station.

During a search of the Discovery, police allegedly located 7.5 grams amphetamine; pipes for smoking methylamphetamine (“ice”); and a large amount of cash.

Both women were charged with supply prohibited drug; possess prohibited drug; and recklessly deal with proceeds of crime.

They appeared in Taree Local Court yesterday (Tuesday 16 September 2014), where they were refused bail to face the same court on 11 November 2014.

The 40-year-old woman is believed to be a Chinese national with an expired visa; the 41-year-old woman is believed to be from Hong Kong.
