One woman dead, another injured, man in custody at Taree

A man has been charged with the domestic-related murder of a woman in Taree last night.

 

About 7pm, Sunday 21 September 2014, police were called to a house on Stevenson Street following reports two women had been stabbed.

Outside the premises police located a 39-year-old woman with a stab wound to her abdomen.

She was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to Manning Base Hospital where she received sutures and was later released.

Police forced entry into the house where they arrested a 53-year-old man and found a 49-year-old woman deceased.

The man was taken to Taree Police Station where he was spoken to by detectives and charged with murder, wounding with intent and breach apprehended domestic violence order.

He was refused bail to appear in Taree Local Court today (Monday 22 September 2014).

A crime scene has been established at a house in Taree following the death of a woman.

Emergency services were called to the home in Stevenson Street shortly before 7pm (Sunday 21 September 12014), responding to reports of a stabbing.

Police from Manning Great Lakes Local Area Command discovered a 39-year-old woman with a stab wound to her abdomen.

She has been taken to Manning Base Hospital and is reported to be in a stable condition.

The body of a 49-year-old woman was found inside the home after police forced entry a short time later.

A 53-year-old man is in police custody after being arrested at the scene.

He is now at Taree Police Station assisting detectives with their investigation.
