Dr Gillespie had some good news for the community groups, who regularly use the Hawks Nest Community Hall.

“We’re happy to say we’ve been able to obtain a $5,000 grant from the Stronger Community Program to go towards painting the hall,” Dr. Gillespie told News Of The Area.

While the gathering was pleased with the announcement, all were of the opinion that the towns of Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest are in desperate need of a new community hall.

Dr. Gillespie heads back to Canberra next week for the first sitting of Parliament for 2019 and of course an election possibly in May.

“It’s been a turbulent couple of years for the Government, but personalities aside, we’ve got the runs on the board,” he said.

“We’ve got unemployment down to five percent, we’ve spent more on health and education than any other Government in history and we’ve got a balanced budget.”

As for his wish list, “I’ve got a big wish list, I’d like to further taxation reform, federation reform, I’d like to see a high speed rail network starting with a service from the Hunter to Sydney, reliable and affordable energy for all and drought proof the nation with more dams.”

Dr Gillespie has served as the Nationals MP for Lyne since 2013, and his opposition for the seat at the next election will come from Labor candidate Phil Costa and the Greens Lauren Edwards.
