IT was with more than a tinge of sadness that Marine Rescue at Lemon Tree Passage recently bid farewell to former commander and tireless volunteer Ian Hollings.
He is retiring from active duty after 16 years of continuous service.
Ian was the flotilla’s commander for seven years.
He also served as treasurer for four years and was skipper of the rescue raft for four years as well as being a long time operator of the base station radio.
Speaking of Ian’s contribution, current commander Richard Osborne OAM said that his outstanding commitment was greatly appreciated.
“The Regional Operations manager of Marine Rescue will make a special trip out this way in the near future to personally present Ian with his long service medal,” he said.
Meanwhile, Port Stephens Council is still committed to constructing a new Marine Rescue operations headquarters above the amenities block at Henderson Park, Lemon Tree Passage.
According to Cr Steve Tucker, it will be a matter of negotiation and cost sharing between Port Stephens Council and the controlling body.
“The wheels are starting to turn already,” he said.
