Free Family Fun Day enjoyed by all during Youth Week at Tea Gardens Pool

Kids enjoyed the Rocket Slide and beautiful weather at Tea Gardens Pool.

FAMILY fun was had by all who attended the Free Family Fun Day at Tea Gardens’ ‘The Y’ Pool on Friday, 21 April.

Although rain swept through briefly, nearly giving some organisers heart attacks, the skies cleared into another brilliant autumn day on the last weekend of the school holidays.

A NSW Government initiative dating back to 1989, ‘Youth Week’ is an annual celebration of young people across the state, this year running from April 20-30, with the themes of ‘Connect, Participate, Celebrate’.

While pelicans circled lazily above, the kids on the ground and along the giant Red Rocket in the water built up strong appetites for the sausages at the nearby free Lions Club BBQ, and the popcorn and snow-cones from Newcastle’s Photobooths, music courtesy of DJ Emile, all completely free of charge.

The kids were able to enjoy the efforts of MidCoast Council, The Y NSW, and several local community service groups, including the Hawks Nest Tea Gardens Progress Association (HNTGPA), the Lions’ Club and Myall Masters.

“It has turned out as a fabulous event, with over 80 people attending, and more than 100 sausages served,” Sandra Bourke, Secretary of the Progress Association, told NOTA.

“Great music, great family fun, and thanks to the MidCoast Council, Lions, and Myall Masters, it just goes to show what community cooperation between service groups can achieve,” Ms Bourke added earnestly.

The event benefited from the State Government’s Youth Week Funding, via the NSW Department of Communities and Justice.

“The Y acknowledges MidCoast Council and the HNTGPA for partnering to host this event, and we see that it supports our belief in the power of inspired young people,” Melissa Morgan, Cluster Manager for MidCoast Y, NSW Sites, told NOTA.

“The young people here today are inspired to get active and engage with the community.”
