Rotary member and Gateway Project Director, Ian Mackenzie-Smith paid tribute to local community individuals and organisations for their help and support.

“It was wonderful to have the enthusiasm and encouragement of so many of our fellow Myall Coast citizens.” he said.
“Without their support, the project might still be only a dream.”

It’s certainly been a long hard road from inception to completion of the sign which welcomes visitors to the Myall Coast villages of Tea Gardens, Hawks Nest, Pindimar and Bundabah.

“The Karuah Hunter Quarry was incredibly generous in donating the 14 tonne boulder to Rotary as a base for the sign,” Ian said.

“Rob Hughes, President of Tea Gardens Men’s Shed and his team were instrumental in designing, fabricating and mounting the framework that holds the steel sign onto the boulder.”

“Steve Ellicott from TGE Engineering is well known for supporting Community projects and he came to the party by supplying his mobile crane to lift the solar panel pole into place.”

“The Project was funded by the NSW Government through their Community Building Partnership Grants and by MidCoast Council with tourism funds.”

Illuminated by solar powered LED lighting, the sign is highly visible both day and night.

“Hopefully the warm and welcoming sign will help encourage our visitors to return and return again,” Ian said.
