The purpose of the visit was to meet all members who support the work of PSVN and the PSVN authorised Pension and Welfare Advocates who provide Department of Veterans Affairs services to current and ex-service personnel and their families and widows.

Meryl also presented a letter from the Minister for Veterans Affairs confirming a grant of $50,200 to PSVN to allow them to provide support services for the next 12 months.

Barrie French, Honorary Secretary of the Karuah RSL Sub Branch told News Of The Area, “The PSVN operates from premises at Tanilba two days a week from office space donated by Port Stephens Veterans and Citizens Aged Care and consists of representatives from Raymond Terrace, Karuah and Tilligerry RSL Sub Branches and Legacy representatives from the Port Stephens area.”

“Support is not limited to within Port Stephens and several clients are from outside of the area.”

The President of the PSVN, Mr Jim Horton OAM told the meeting that in the last year nearly 450 DVA claims had been processed by the volunteer organisation.

Barrie said “Member organisations present at the meeting signed a Memorandum of Understanding to remain a member of the network for a further 12 months and are pictured in the photograph with Meryl Swanson holding the signed agreement.”
