As part of their regular monthly ‘Skills Day’ outings, the Peter Sinclair residents have helped fill 31 colourful boxes with treasures to be sent to children in need as a Christmas gift.

“The first age group is two to four, the second aged group is five to nine and third group is 10 to 14,” Ruth Calcutt told News Of The Area.

“There are boxes for girls and boys and each box contains six unique gifts.”

“Something to wear, something to love, something special such as a bangle or photo, something for school, something to play with and something for personal hygiene,” Ruth said.

They also contain a photo of the person who packed them, so that the recipient knows who’s put together their special gift.

“All the children from church also write letters and include pictures.”

The Peter Sinclair Residents were also shown a DVD of the places and the children who have received the shoebox gifts in the past.

Worldwide 11.5 million shoeboxes have been sent out to children in need, 350,000 from Australia and counting.

Ruth Calcutt summed it up, “The looks on the faces of the children, the excitement and the joy is just wonderful.”
