Unable to renew the lease on their café in Queensland, Guy and Kylie Nicolls decided to take a break and consider their options.

A decision was made to take a short holiday and head South rather than their usual destination further North and would utilise a Groupon voucher for Bay Breeze Holiday Apartments, Nelson Bay.

Whilst making the booking, Kylie shared their situation with Les Merrett, Manager, who advised that he was looking for someone to take over the café within the holiday apartments.

Guy told News Of The Area, “When Kylie got off the phone, she looked at me and said, “Ok, that’s a bit weird”, and then went on to relay the conversation to me. It seemed too good to be true.”

Arriving in Nelson Bay soon after, they spent a week looking around, enjoying what was on offer and decided that they could see themselves living here.

It took the family just one month to pack up their lives in Queensland and move to Port Stephens, and now that they have taken delivery of their prized oven, they are ready and waiting to create amazing muffins and other tasty delights.

“Although it was difficult leaving family behind, we know this is the best decision for us as a family,” Guy said.

“This is what we have always wanted to do, set up a business which is highly family oriented, where we can support our children and when they are older, can come on board and work with us.”

With previous customer feedback being: great atmosphere, wonderful customer/staff interaction, food is amazing and great prices, it’s not difficult to see why Les Merrett is happy to have them on board.

Les said, “I hope the community get behind Guy and Kylie to support them in making a successful business, they are offering an affordable menu of snacks and meals.”
