However sometimes finding the time for a day trip and arranging for a designated driver can be a bit of a hassle.

Members of the Fingal Bay Probus Club were delighted when, a few years ago, Ross Jennings introduced Wine Appreciation as a part of the fellowship, friendship and fun they enjoy.

These popular gatherings are held each month, usually in a members’ home, with an array of white and red wines to sample and assess and appreciate.

Because the club loves to “shop local”, we recently welcomed the Cellar Café in Market Street, Fingal Bay as an occasional Wine Appreciation venue.

Wines were chosen by the Cellar’s Alex from his great selection and members carefully rate them from 1 to 5 on special forms provided.

Julia Redlich, Joint Vice President and Publicity Officer of Probus Club of Fingal Bay told News Of The Area, “The results are sometimes very enlightening and the cause of interesting conversations!”

“The club’s monthly Wine Appreciation gatherings are a great opportunity to enjoy some great Hunter wines without the worry of driving home from the valley.”

“Many of the members also enjoyed cakes, coffee and tea before the meeting ends and we head for home in the more than capable hands of the Café’s Lexie,” she said.

The Probus Club of Fingal Bay meets on the second Monday of every month at 9.30am at The Fingal Bay Sports and Recreation Club, 100 Rocky Point Road, Fingal Bay and offers a selection of activities and a variety of guest speakers.
