Setting her sights on being in the top ten, coming in ninth, she missed out on joint seventh/eighth position by two points in a very strong line-up.

However, Joy battles with anxiety daily, even more so to get onto stage, and yet to watch her perform, she looked relaxed, graceful and happy.

Joy said, “We all have something we struggle with, something we have to overcome, I compete with myself not the others on stage with me.”

“This year I received feedback from a judge who remembered me from last year, when he told me how much better I was this year, that was the biggest compliment.”

For Joy, it is not about the actual placing within the competition, it is about how far she has come.

“I strive each day to be a better me than I was last year, last week or yesterday,”  Joy told News Of The Area.

“After giving myself a break from training, I am back with my coach and working towards the next event.”

Joy explained that having a coach is essential as it makes her accountable and sees the cost as an investment in her health rather than a luxury or expense.

“To get the most out of your relationship with your coach, you must have trust, honesty and follow the plan created personally for you,” Joy said.

“As a personal trainer and co-owner of PT Fitness, it is important and of benefit to our members that I continue to learn the science behind good nutrition for both weight loss and muscle building which is why I am constantly learning.”
