KARUAH Progress Association (KPA) have donated $1000 to Karuah Rural Fire Service in appreciation of their assistance during this year’s Lost Highway Bluegrass Music Festival. Now in its eighth year, the festival was organised by the KPA and its group of volunteers. The donation made to Karuah Rural Fire Service last week acknowledges their members who supported and volunteered at the festival which was held in May. A spokesperson for the KPA, said the aim of the Music Festival was to bring people to Karuah and have them stay for the weekend, injecting money into the local economy. “It is estimated the injection this year was around $100,000,” the spokesperson said. “It would be wonderful if we could be self-sufficient, but we will continue to need sponsorship for the next few years at least.” This year’s event was sponsored by Hunter Quarries along with further sponsorship and assistance from Port Stephens Council.
