The inaugural event is raising money for the NSW Cancer Council.

“The community has really got behind the event, I’ve been blown away by the wonderful generosity of so many local businesses and individuals,” organiser Kylie Russell said.

“We have several thousand dollars’ worth of items to auction off and give away already, it’s amazing.”

Mavericks is a beautiful venue to spend the afternoon, and the event features the talented Matt McLaren, lunch and drinks and loads of raffle prizes on offer.

All proceeds will go to the Cancer Council’s campaign to help support Australians affected by cancer.

Locally, the Cancer Council provides free transport to treatment for all patients in Port Stephens through a partnership with two local cancer support groups, and in the past year has provided 65 local Port Stephens patients with financial assistance.

The organisation also recently launched a Palliative Carer Respite service and the first family supported was from Port Stephens.

All Cancer Council services are free and fully funded by community donations and fundraising such as the Ladies Long Lunch.

The event has the backing of local groups such as the Tomaree Breast Cancer Support Group and the Tomaree Prostate Cancer Support Group.

Port Stephens MP Kate Washington has thrown her support behind the day as well, picking up a ticket herself and donating a privileged one-on-one experience as one of the many prizes.

“I’m so inspired by my brave friends and relatives that have taken on their personal cancer battles and the medical teams that help them through it,” Ms Russell said.

“We still have a few tickets remaining, so get in quick if you want to be part of the fun,” Ms Russell said.

Tickets are $85 and must be pre-purchased from https://www.trybooking.com/OKYH.
